VAMA is proud to announce that Ashley Bowman, Director of Operations for Landmark Property Services, has been named the 2026 recipient of the Gloria D. Jacobs Member of the Year Award, a recognition reserved for those whose leadership and service leave a lasting impact on VAMA and the rental housing industry.

Ashley’s contributions to VAMA over the past several years have been exceptional. From 2018 through 2022, Ashley served as Chair of the VAMACON Committee, helping elevate the conference into one of the most sought-after industry events in the region. Through both creativity and determination, Ashley guided VAMACON through significant challenges, including a fully virtual event and a carefully managed return to in-person programming, ensuring its continued success.

A consistent and reliable leader, Ashley has served on the VAMA Executive Committee for the past five years and stepped into the role of VAMA President for two consecutive terms. During that time, VAMA achieved major milestones, including becoming one of the National Apartment Association’s top 10 largest affiliates and earning recognition as a finalist for NAA Affiliate of the Year in 2025.

Known by many as one of VAMA’s strongest champions, Ashley brings energy, optimism, and a deep commitment to the organization’s mission. Ashley’s leadership has strengthened VAMA and helped position the association for continued growth and success.

Jacobs Member of the Year Award - a recognition reserved for those whose leadership and service have profoundly shaped the rental housing industry in Virginia and beyond.

This award, named in memory of Gloria D. Jacobs, honors individuals who exemplify the values she championed: selfless service, tireless advocacy, and visionary leadership. Gloria, a former VAMA President and early advocate for launching VAMACON in 2004, dedicated her career to supporting our industry and those who work in it. Rick Jones has carried that torch forward.

As the co-founder and Chair of the VAMA Blue Ridge Chapter (originally the Blue Ridge Apartment Council) Rick played a pivotal role in establishing a strong foundation for regional engagement. His passion for advocacy has echoed across city councils, the Virginia General Assembly, and the halls of Congress, where he has championed legislation that balances operational practicality with fairness and forward-thinking housing policy.

Rick has served for years on the VAMA Legislative Committee, helping to shape vital updates to the Virginia Residential Landlord Tenant Act. His efforts have strengthened the rental housing industry’s foundation and ensured that the voices of housing providers are heard at every level of government. Nationally, he has represented the industry with distinction, testifying before Congress on lead-based paint legislation and, most recently, serving as the 2023 Chair of the National Apartment Association’s Legislative Committee.

Rick’s legacy is one of action, impact, and unwavering dedication. His work exemplifies the spirit of collaboration and service that Gloria D. Jacobs embodied, and VAMA is thrilled to honor his contributions with this prestigious award.

Maintenance Mania® is a national program offered by NAA and presenting sponsor HD Supply, in which maintenance technicians compete against each other in various skill-based games. Roughly 150 members came out to support the 95 competitors as they battled for the winning title of each game.
